Self-replicating AI robot recipe update

Updating some of my speculative posts from 2013 and 2016 now that all of this is feeling a lot more possible

In 2013 I made this post about starter kit for a solar-powered, self-replicating, 3D printing robot that could make enough money to find or buy its own materials… which might be enough for it to be classified as alive.

Looking back on it 12 years later I feel like this could actually be made. It might be better to just give it a brokerage account to make money, or an Etsy account to sell found or created items. It probably doesn’t need the mini-car and could use Task Rabbit for picking up parts too… until it improves the design enough to justify the extra cost of building wheels.

I have another post from 2016 that’s a very high-level check-list steps that I think would give software a claim for being “human level” outside of the philosophical question about what counts as AGI. I want to update with everything that’s happened in the last 9 years. It’s a lot!
